THE five black rhinos that were the first to be transported through the Dube Trade Port to Zambia are adapting well, says KZN Wildlife spokesperson Jeff Gaisford.

THE five black rhinos that were the first to be transported through the Dube Trade Port to Zambia are adapting well, says KZN Wildlife spokesperson Jeff Gaisford.

Prior to transportation there were concerns that the rhinos would face difficulties in adapting to the humid and warm Zambian climate.

"The animals arrived in good health and they are still kept in close watch while getting used to the new climate conditions," Gaisford said.

The rhinos left South Africa a month ago and Gaisford said it was up to the Zambian park officials to decide when the animals will be released to open land.

He said as the animals were still in a monitored environment they were also getting used to the different vegetation in Zambia.

The four females and one male were taken from Hluhluwe- Umfolozi Park and Ithala Game Reserve and flown to Zambia's North Luangwa National Park.
