HILDA Magaya's sin was to sit next to two men outside her friend's rented room.

HILDA Magaya's sin was to sit next to two men outside her friend's rented room.

She is now fighting for her life in hospital with 80percent of her body covered in burns.

Her boyfriend of eight months, Petros Matsumo, 27, is on the run after he threw a burning paraffin stove at Magaya, burning her from the knees up.

Magaya, 29, is lying unconscious with her body covered in bandages at Thembisa Hospital.

Her friend, Kennedy Tafirenyika, 27, said the incident happened on Saturday at about 8pm.

"Petros came to the house and found his girlfriend chatting with two men. He came to my room where my wife was cooking and started yelling that she was cheating on him and was not fit to be a wife."

He said Magaya followed Matsumo into the room and they started arguing.

"They fought, I tried to separate them. Matsumo picked up the hot pot on the paraffin stove to throw at Magaya but my wife grabbed it from behind.

"He then took the stove and threw it at Magaya. We all ran out when she started burning."

Tafirenyika said Magaya ran around the room and everything caught fire

Matsumo returned to the shack and carried her out.

"His hands were also burnt. We used sand, water and carpet to put out the fire on Magaya's body. She was badly burnt," he said.

Tafirenyika's landlord Lina Lehodi said: "I cannot get the horrible image out of my head. The boy was cruel."

Police are investigating.
