'Benched Booth still haunts me'

SOUTH Africa's most popular wag, Sonia Booth, says watching her Bafana Bafana defender hubby Mathew Booth confined to the bench during the World Cup still haunts her.

SOUTH Africa's most popular wag, Sonia Booth, says watching her Bafana Bafana defender hubby Mathew Booth confined to the bench during the World Cup still haunts her.

Sonia revealed this to Sowetan during a Wags and Players Lounge party hosted by GQ magazine on Thursday.

The event at Club Moloko in Rosebank attracted soccer wags, celebrities and leggy wannabe soccer mistresses and beautiful blondes who chatted to some clean-cut soccer players in good suits.

Among these was defender Larry Cohen, who signed for Bidvest Wits. He came with his girlfriend Lady Kitty Spencer, Princess Diana's niece. The two lovebirds could not stop kissing and caressing each other.

Lizzi Cundy, who is the wife of former Chelsea player Jason Cundy, was the oldest wag at the party. She still looks good enough to eat in her 50s.

The pretty wife and sweetheart of Macbeth Sibaya, Nicky Sibaya, was also there.

Sonia, who rocked up in a David Tlale number, minced no words when she told Sowetan about her pain while hoping that coach Carlos Alberto Parreira would pick Mathew.

"He was so looking forward to representing his country in the World Cup. It was not easy for me to watch him going through that pain. He still hurts but that is the nature of football," the former model said.

Dressed by Thunderstorm, Mathew, who also attended the party, was in a sombre mood. But he graciously greeted and posed for pictures with fans.
