A SECURITY guard is in a critical condition after he was shot in the face in Durban's Stonebridge Drive, police said yesterday.

Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said: "The guard was at work when he was attacked by a groupof men.

"He was shot four times and his firearm was taken."

Police suspect robbery was the motive for the attack on Tuesday night. No arrests have been made and a case of attempted murder was opened.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the guard was fighting for his life in hospital.

"Our team placed him on a manual ventilator before he was transported to the hospital by ambulance for the life-saving care he required." - Sapa
