SA up for games

BAFANA Bafana might have failed to move into the second round of the Fifa 2010 World Cup, but the tournament will still be a success.

BAFANA Bafana might have failed to move into the second round of the Fifa 2010 World Cup, but the tournament will still be a success.

Bafana were knocked out on Tuesday despite beating France 2-1 in Bloemfontein.

This was the message from the Fifa local organising committee spokesperson Jermaine Craig.

Addressing a media briefing yesterday, Craig said: "Of course, we are disappointed that Bafana Bafana did not make it through to the next round, but South Africans are still up for the games.

"When it comes to the second team that we will support from a colloquial African perspective, the country will get behind other African countries and have continental solidarity," Craig said.

"If Ghana win tomorrow, they will be our second team. You will see Black Stars fans all over the country."

Craig said even if African countries left the tournament early, the World Cup would still be enjoyable.

"The thing with South Africa is that we have a massive immigrant community. We have a lot of Portuguese and Italian communities and they will go out and support their teams."
