Despite last week's loss, South Africans are still behind the team.

President Jacob Zuma has again called for South Africans to continue rallying behind Bafana Bafana.

"Let me take this opportunity to wish our national team well next week when they play against France in Bloemfontein. We must continue supporting the national team, the African teams and indeed the World Cup tournament in general as hosts.

"South Africans are already winners. We won on 15 May 2004 when the announcement was made, declaring us as the hosts. The whole world is looking at us and applauding our success so far as hosts," Zuma said.

"We congratulate each and every citizen for such patriotism and amazing energy. You are ensuring that this becomes a vibrant African World Cup. We are impressed by the massive attendance at soccer games and fan parks."

Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane, pictured, also joined the voice behind Bafana Bafana. She said: "It is not yet all over for you Bafana. It is time for you to prove to the world that you have the tenacity to overcome when faced with that which many would regard as an insurmountable obstacle."
