"I wanted to be part of history - the first-ever World Cup on the continent but that wasn't to be," said Gould.
Though brokenhearted, the SuperSport United lynchpin said his omission has not affected him psychologically.
Gould has recovered from the knee injury that cost him a place in the Bafana Bafana World Cup squad and reported for an off-season training camp with the three-time Premiership champions last week.
"My knee is fine now," he said, "and I'm working hard at training to regain my fitness."
"It will be very hectic for us as we will also play in the 2010 African Confederation Cup."
But it is unlikely Gould will be with United in the new season as apart from Tottenham Hotspur, Gould has also confirmed interest from teams from Spain, Germany and Belgium.
"I'm busy weighing up options and it will be premature for me to mention the teams interested in me before a deal has been signed," he said.
On Bafana chances of qualifying for the next phase of the World Cup, Gould said they still can.
"On paper it looks a bit impossible, but I'm still positive of our chances," he said.
"We need to believe in ourselves. I have confidence in the players. Let us not turn our back on the team now that they need our support most. We were there for them before the tournament let's continue to rally behind them."
