SPAIN - Barcelona's Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to leave the Spanish side and could return to Italy or move to England, Spain's sports media reported yesterday.

The player has decided to quit the club after ending the season on the substitute's bench and, according to the Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo, he prefers a transfer to AC Milan over Juventus or Manchester City, the two other clubs that have shown interest in him.

Rival Catalan sports daily Sport said the 28-year-old would be "ideal" for AC Milan, which is owned by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. English side Chelsea are also interested in the player, it added.

Ibrahimovic, who joined Barce- lona in July 2009 from Inter Milan in a deal worth $90million (R675 million), has had a mixed first season at Barcelona. He scored 16 times for the club in the Spanish league but failed to win over fans and ended the season on the substitutes' bench.

His centre-forward role was taken over by teenager Bojan Krkic. He will face even more competition next season from Spanish international striker David Villa who joined Barcelona from Valencia last month. - Sapa-AFP
