KNOWN for their flamboyance as well as a sense of style and ceremony, the Nigerians last night officially opened their 2010 World Cup Afrikan Village at Zoo Lake Sports Club in Johannesburg.
The Village will be like a mini-Nigeria in South Africa.
The dignitaries who attended the ceremony last night included Nigeria's ambassador to South Africa Dr BM Marwa and Alhaji Abubaker Sadiq Mohammed, the minister of tourism and culture.
The function gave people the chance to taste Nigerian dishes like their mouth-watering egusi soup with eba or amala, jolof rice with fried chicken, as well as other soups like pepper, amala and vegetable, which will enslave you forever.
Dubbed the Nigerian Project One Family, the Village will unleash juju, highlife, Afrobeat, gospel and hip-hop, musical genres whose captivating magic is no less powerful than that of Nigerian food, along with the colourful and regal attire the West Africans wear.
People also had a chance to network and make friends, besides learning about Nigerian culture and the more than 300 languages that exist in addition to the major three, those being Ibo, Yoruba and Hausa.
The music was provided by the likes of Kunle Ayo, Ntando, Kelly Khumalo, Mozambique's Mingas and Dudu Manhenga.
