FORMER Democratic Alliance leader and current South African ambassador to Argentina, Tony Leon, touched on Clint Eastwood's movie Invictus when he visited the national Under-20 rugby squad on Saturday.

Leon visited the side that is taking part in the IRB Junior World Championships in Argentina, ahead of their showdown against Australia last night.

"I hope our boys will go out and create their own invictus at this tournament," said Leon.

"I've been following the progress of the boys here in Argentina and I was impressed with the result against Scotland. It was quite an emphatic victory and I am confident that our boys will do us proud here. It was a great feeling to interact with the players and the technical staff.

"These young players have the potential to be household names in rugby. They are our future Springboks," Leon said.

As is tradition in rugby before an international match, a guest is invited to present the team with their match jerseys before the game. For the team, it was a thrill to have Leon provide the honour.

"We are really privileged that we could afford Tony Leon the opportunity to present our players with their match jerseys," said team manager Willem Oliphant who handed Leon a signed match jersey.
