Cape Town dares ANCYL over R420m claims

THE City of Cape Town has strongly denied accusations by the ANC Youth League that it misused R420million in consultations for the Integrated Rapid Transit project.

The city yesterday challenged the league to bring on the evidence.

Yesterday the ANC's youth wing told the media that it would take the city to the Public Protector "for misusing taxpayers' money and for not following proper tender processes".

It alleged that "tenders were given out like Christmas presents for friends of DA's officials".

But media manager of the city Kylie Hatton said all appointments of the consultants were made in line with the city's supply chain management policy and the municipal finance act.

"All appointments are scrutinised at the city's bid adjudication committee, which meets regularly and is open to the public. No councillor is involved in the procurement process in terms of the national legislation," Hatton said.
