Vavi is no 'holy cow' in alliance

AFTER charges were preferred against Julius Malema, Blade Nzimande went on a long-winded, sanctimonious lecture about how all ANC members, including the leaders, were subject to the discipline of the party.

But once his friend was charged, the SACP released a hypocritical statement that it was "nonsense".

The fact is that Zwelinzima Vavi is no different from any member of the ANC being subjected to its discipline. It seems Vavi has long embarked on a crusade to embarrass, grandstand and cause fractures within the alliance.

These can only be attributed to two things: either the loud-mouthed Vavi is positioning himself for ANC leadership or he is trying to hold the alliance to ransom.

The saddest part that the Cosatu members must digest, is that this alliance was built on a lot of sacrifices and it cannot be sold to the ego of one man, Vavi.

Cosatu members are as much ANC members and should refuse to sell the soul of the alliance to this egomaniac.

Vavi has unfettered access to the ANC and government officials, so why he should go on uncontrolled tantrums from time to time is unfathomable.

The ANC needs to take a stand against this contemptuous leader and haul him before a disciplinary hearing to answer the charges.

That is the only way the public will believe that no one is bigger than the ANC, and that everyone is subject to its discipline. Vavi should not be a holy cow.
