YCL calls on youth to rally behind Bafana

AS PART of celebrating Youth Month the Young Communist League (YCL) in Limpopo is encouraging young people in the province to rally behind Bafana Bafana and the entire 2010 Fifa World Cup tournament.

The call was made by the league's provincial secretary, Pat Makape, during the official launch of the Youth Month at GaKgapane township outside Modjadjiskloof at the weekend.

Makape said in celebration of the prestigious soccer tournament, the YCL had bought tickets for people from disadvantaged families to watch some of the games at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

He said they would also kick-start the Youth Month with a memorial lecture for the league's late secretary, Ruth First.

First was the league's first female national general secretary in the early 1940s.

Makape told Sowetan that as this year's Youth Month also see the playing of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, they would host some sports tournaments in the Greater Sekhukhune District where young members of the league will compete in various sporting codes.

The YCL members also warned that there would be a "hell-fire" should the ANC decide to go ahead with their disciplinary action against Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi.

"We will go out of our way to show our alliance partner (the ANC) that we mean business by declaring war on corruption," Makape said.

Meanwhile, a member of the SACP provincial executive council, Rudolph Phala, who is also the speaker of legislature, called on members of the league to work together to strengthen the tripartite alliance.
