Costly blunder

AS IF we were some banana republic with no proper system of checks and balances, South Africa's mistakes are getting costlier by the day.

After opening amid much fanfare recently, a whopping R3million has just been flushed down the drain at the new King Shaka International Airport. The statue of King Shaka, meant to be the centrepiece at the facility, has just been removed because, according to Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini the sculpture is not a true depiction of the late warrior king.

A lot of money has been wasted. Now a task team, which will obviously not offer its services for free, will be appointed to decide on how to modify the sculpture, the work of well-known Durban craftsman Andries Botha.

It's a costly blunder that should not have happened in the first place.
