Increased budget to boost Tubatse projects

THE increased budget for the Greater Tubatse municipality will go a long way to improving the lives of the people in the area.

This is the view of the mayor Ralepane Mamekoa, who presented the council's budget on Monday evening.

The municipality was allocated a budget of R227million compared with last year's R197million.

Mamekoa said the municipality's turnaround strategy would help improve provision of water, sanitation, waste management, roads and town and land use management.

The strategy would focus on the five strategic objectives.

Mamekoa said the objectives would, among other things, ensure that they met the basic service needs of communities, improved performance and professionalism in the municipality and build clean, effective, efficient, responsive and accountable local government.

He said they also hoped to create as many jobs as possible for the people in the area.

"Over a period from 2006 to date the municipality experienced township development growth of more than 200percent, which impacted positively on our revenue base," he said.

He said investments in excess of R5billion in the local economy had created more 5 000 job opportunities.
