Just more than 14600 Western Cape drivers have been fined in the last three months for not wearing seatbelts, Western Cape MEC for community safety Lennit Max said yesterday .

Just more than 14600 Western Cape drivers have been fined in the last three months for not wearing seatbelts, Western Cape MEC for community safety Lennit Max said yesterday .

He said the "back to basics" enforcement blitz had also seen 2925 drivers fined for holding their cellphones while driving.

Max said the blitz was an attempt not to create revenue for municipalities, but to force people to prioritise their own safety and that of others. - Sapa
