'Axed for probing corruption'

The suspension of Bushbuckridge municipal manager Cazi Lisa on Monday has striking similarities to that of Nkomazi municipal manager Sabelo Shabangu 18 months ago.

Both municipal managers were suspended for trying to prevent corruption.

Bushbuckridge municipality spokesperson Matome Malatjie confirmed on Tuesday that Lisa had been suspended but claimed not to know the reasons for it.

"I cannot furnish you with reasons because the executive mayor (Milton Morema) has not yet informed me about the suspension."

Yesterday Malatjie still did not know the reasons.

"The mayor said he would call a press conference on Monday so that he could explain what led to the suspension," Malatjie said.

Lisa also confirmed his suspension but refused to divulge more.

But Sowetan has established that Lisa had called for investigations into alleged irregularities in the Bushbuckridge municipality.

"His questioning of an R18million tender for VIP toilets after discovering that the tender had been manipulated could be one of the reasons behind this suspension," said a source who wished not to be named.
