veteran mabena spreads wings

RADIO veteran Bob Mabena is expanding his horizons.

RADIO veteran Bob Mabena is expanding his horizons.

After 22 years on the airwaves, Mabena, who also has a slot on Kaya fm on Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 6pm, is branching into radio consultancy.

Mabena, pictured, who has resigned as managing director of Makana Radio Communications, has established his own consultancy, Endow Media and Marketing Company.

The company will be built around Mabena's strong understanding of broadcasting in the South African context.

While managing MRC Mabena also served on its boards and those of iGagasi FM in KwaZulu-Natal and Heart 104.9 FM in Cape Town - two radio stations in which MRC is a majority shareholder.

"The health of the Afropolitan male and his family is the focus of our weekend shows. I plan to focus on putting together some superb music shows based on lifestyle for radio listeners," Mabena said.

He said his decision to focus his energies on how he could add value as an individual in South Africa's broadcast industry, didn't come lightly.

"I gained a lot of experience at MRC working on South Africa's fastest growing station iGagasi FM and on Heart FM, which I think is Cape Town's most cosmopolitan station. Having worked at a parastatal, blue chip company Primedia and in business has equipped me with the experience to branch out on my own."

MRC chairman Peter-Paul Ngwenya said: "Bob has contributed to the success of our radio stations during his time with us. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with him."
