Moms settle Mathosa issue

SINGER Lebo Mathosa's biological mother yesterday settled a claim against her late daughter's adoptive mother for R375000 but insisted her legal battle had not been about money.

SINGER Lebo Mathosa's biological mother yesterday settled a claim against her late daughter's adoptive mother for R375000 but insisted her legal battle had not been about money.

"It was not about money. I just wanted to be recognised as her mother. That's all," Judy Peter said outside the Pretoria high court.

Peter, who fell pregnant with her only child when she was still in school, claimed Mathosa had been taken away from her as a baby. She claimed she was denied any contact with the kwaito, rhythm and blues star despite promises her daughter would be returned to her. Mother and daughter only met again in 1998, eight years before her daughter's death in a car accident near Germiston in October 2006.

When Mathosa died without leaving a will, Peter went to court claiming she was the sole heir to Mathosa's estate worth about R1million in terms of intestate legislation. - Sapa
