Children at a state-sponsored children's home in Pietermaritzburg were made to sleep in tents after their rooms were rented to Comrades Marathon runners, the KwaZulu-Natal social development department said yesterday.
Department spokesperson Mandla Ngema said: "The MEC (Meshack Radebe) is very angry about this. The NGO running the home has apologised and it is co-operating with us."
He said over 100 children were removed from the home to make room for about 120 runners who allegedly hired accommodation at R150 per night per person. The children were put up in tents. - Sapa
