It has killed another 15 in a new blockade of the Gaza Strip. A Turkish flotilla tried to bring in humanitarian aid which Israel is determined to prevent. It is surely destroying its cordial relationship with the one Arab nation that accepts their presence in the Middle East.
The Israelis say the Palestinians are not hurting because of the blockade. If it were that futile, they would not use that weapon to bring the Arabs to their knees.
It is clear that war will not settle the Middle East strife and Israel playing the racial victim has worn thin. People are losing patience with a nation that thinks it can do no wrong because the US is watching its back. Israel blithely ignores US suggestions or warnings about its aggression to the Palestinians.
The problems facing the area are many, so are the grudges that are nursed into full-blown hatred every now and then by both sides. The Palestinians and the Israelis do all they can to keep hostilities alive.
The danger here is that people all over the world have Middle East fatigue. Eyes glaze over when Israel and Palestine are mentioned. The fact that both are intransigent and will not compromise has resulted in a weary resignation in the rest of the world.
It is said the Jewish vote can make or break an American president. Israel may well break Barack Obama's presidency. Sadly, that is why we think he is treading lightly against Israeli aggression.
