Councillor 'dismissed'

GROUTVILLE residents in KwaDukuza, on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, were on cloud nine yesterday after the removal of their councillor Sdudla Mhlongo.

But MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs Nomusa Dube has denied the reports of any such dismissal.

Mhlongo, ANC Ward 10 councillor, was allegedly removed after a meeting between residents and Dube on Sunday. A new councillor is expected to be deployed soon.

Mhlongo's removal comes barely a month after residents took to the streets complaining about lack of service delivery.

They accused her of being rude when addressing them and that she once told them to "go and retrieve your votes" from ANC if they were not happy with her.

Community representative Seni Gumede said: "We have been complaining about her for far too long. We are relieved that she has finally been removed."

But Dube's spokesperson Lennox Mabaso, rejected the claims as "unfounded and devoid of truth".

"We would like to state for the record that we did not remove or make any recommendations to remove (Sdudla) Mhlongo as a councillor," Mabaso said.
