THE agony of the Grade 12 pupils whose results were withheld after they were accused of cheating in the examinations ended yesterday when they received their results.

One of the pupils, Lucas Makhubela, 19, who was a pupil at Khumbula High School, said he was happy to receive his full results.

"Yesterday when I arrived on the school premises I was shaking, thinking that the principal had made a mistake when he phoned me to tell me my results were ready," Makhubela said.

"After a few minutes he called me to his office and gave me my statement. I am still shocked by the way we were treated by the government because I have already lost my bursary.

"I have been punished for a crime I never committed. I hope my parents will help me to go and study teaching at Wits University next year."

Another pupil from the same school, Nonsikelelo Likhuleni, 17, said she was elated on receiving her results.

"I am excited because the institution that wanted to give me a bursary has promised to reconsider me. Next year I am going to enrol for a commerce degree at the University of Cape Town."

Both pupils obtained symbol B in agricultural science, in which they were accused of cheating .

Various universities have already refused to admit them for further studies, citing incomplete results.

National examination and assessment Centre chief director Nkosinathi Sishi has urged teachers to commit themselves to teaching their pupils to make sure they feel confident during the exams.

"We were investigating six Mpumalanga schools and all have been cleared," he said.

A total of 40 learners from Khumbula High School confirmed that they had received their results, while 33 learners from Isibhulo High said they were told to collect theirs today.
