THE results of Mpu-malanga Grade 12 pupils earlier accused of cheating will finally be released today.

The results were withheld by the the Department of Education pending investigations, a move that frustrated the pupils since various universities refused to admit them because the results of certain subjects had not been released.

National examination and assessment centre chief director Nkosinathi Sishi has confirmed that learners from two schools, who were suspected of cheating, had been cleared on Friday.

"After investigating the matter we decided to release the learners' results," Sishi said. "All 73 learners from two schools were cleared.

"Forty pupils from Khumbula High School and 33 from Isibhulo High School will receive their results. We were investigating six Mpumalanga schools, which all have been cleared. "

One of the pupils, Lucas Makhubela, 19, who was at Khumbula High School, said he was happy when he received a phone call on Friday informing him that he would receive his agricultural science results.

"I was thinking about suicide all the time because I was stressed," he said. "Next year I am going to study teaching at Wits University."

Another pupil, Nonsikelelo Likhuleni, 17, said she cried after receiving the good news.

"I immediately phoned the institution that wanted to give me a bursary. Next year, I am going to enrol for a commerce degree at the University of Cape Town."
