THE South African "Emerging Sevens" team will take part in the yearly Tusker Sevens Safari rugby tournament to be held in Kenya this weekend.

The tournament kicks off on Friday and the final will be played on Sunday.

The up-and-coming rugby stars were selected by the national team's selectors last month and all of the players feature for their respective teams in the Vodacom Cup campaign.

Coach Arthur Janson yesterday told Sowetan they have culled the best side possible - hungry enough to bring home the bacon.

He said the tournament will serves as an platform for the youngsters to showcase their undoubted talents.

The team includes Mzwandile Stick, Frankie Horne, Vuyo Zangqa, Norman Nelson and Cecil Afrika.

The quartet were promoted to the Springboks Sevens and did exceptionally well in the recent IRB Sevens World Series.

The home side last won the title three years ago and are confident of regaining their title this time around.

But they will face a test of character to achieve that goal, following two defeats to reigning champions Kenya in 2008 and 2009.

Zimbabwe, Fiji, Samoa and Argentina are some of the top teams who will battle it out in the Kenyan event.

The last training camp for the home side will be held in Stellenbosch before they jet out to Nairobi before the end of the week.

lThe South African squad is: Jacquin Jansen, Marlon Lewis, Siyanda Grey, Bernado Botha, Earl Lewis, Brian Shabangu, Deon Scholtz, Jacobus Swanepoel, Siviwe Magaba, Jacques Engelbrecht, Johann Sadie and Jacobus Schabort.
