YEOVILLE took the honours as the place to be for Africa Day as celebrations continued all week throughout the country, culminating this weekend in pulsating cultural events marking one of the most important days for the continent.

YEOVILLE took the honours as the place to be for Africa Day as celebrations continued all week throughout the country, culminating this weekend in pulsating cultural events marking one of the most important days for the continent.

The commemoration was observed and celebrated throughout the country over the weekend by a number of events .

The official celebrations took place in Kempton Park on Saturday, with South African musicians such Yvonne Chaka Chaka performing alongside African counterparts such as Nigerian's D-anji.

Yeoville was where all efforts to make the Africa Day party great were expended and the most fun had .

From as early as 6am on Saturday all the main streets were closed. They were turned into party venues. Tables stretching from Raleigh Street to Bezeidenhout Street were abuzz with activity. Entrepreneurs were selling all kinds of things, from African food to literature, clothing and handicraft.

There was also music galore as various bands took to the stage. They delighted audiences with mbaqanga, Afro-pop and reggae. In true Africa style, there was also Nigerian and Congolese music.
