A Bafana Bafana fan club will be launched in Johannesburg today to mobilise more than a million supporters for the national team ahead of the World Cup.

Initiated by Nik Erberl, who was born in Germany but has lived in South Africa for 16 years, the launch will take place in Newclare.

It is scheduled to start at 10am at Gladys Bailey's The Place Pub & Grill, opposite the Rahima Moosa Hospital (formerly Coronationville hospital).

Erberl said he had decided to introduce the 12th Player Project after it proved to be a runaway success during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

"Everybody was right behind the national team in Germany in 2006, so I thought it will be a good idea to get South Africans involved as the World Cup is taking place in this country.

The SA Football Supporters Association, who include Bailey, Saddam Maake, Mzion Mofokeng and Siyabulela Makunga, are also involved in the project.

The initiative has been endorsed by Safa. To become an official Bafana supporter, SMS Bafana to 35865. The proceeds will be donated to soccer development projects.
