KAIZER Chiefs supremo Kaizer Motaung believes Bafana Bafana have a good chance not only of making their first-ever World Cup knockout appearance, but to go all the way to the final.
Motaung argues that France were faced with similar challenges in the build-up to the 1998 World Cup, which they successfully hosted and won.
Juts like Bafana, who failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Les Bleus also missed out on the 1994 tournament in the US.
Prior to the 1998 World Cup, France were blowing hot and cold, which resulted in some of the impatient locals to write off Les Bleus.
"In 1998, France's national team were dismissed by their people - they were declared failures long before the kickoff of that tournament," Motaung said.
"It is history that France ended up winning.
"I know many people do not give Bafana Bafana a chance. But it is wrong to judge them on the past results, the nation must rally behind their efforts."
Chiefs have three members in the squad: Siphiwe Tshabalala, Itumeleng Khune and Reneilwe Letsholonyane.
