THE Health and Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa says it will embark on a full-blown strike at Netcare hospitals next week if management does not meet their demands.
Hospersa is demanding a 12percent salary hike while the employer says it can afford 8,25percent.
Hospersa general secretary Noel Desfontaines said: "We have not heard anything from management so far. We are giving them this week only. There will be no more picketing next week, but a crippling strike."
He said his union represented at least 6000 members at Netcare nationwide.
Yesterday Hospersa members picketed at various hospitals.
Netcare said it had concluded an agreement for an 8,25percent increase with the other three unions - the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union, Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa and Solidarity.
Desfontaines said Hospersa received a certificate to go on strike, but had opted to picket only because of the World Cup.
