WITH just two weeks to go before the eagerly awaited Fifa World Cup, excitement around the soccer spectacle has reached fever pitch.

WITH just two weeks to go before the eagerly awaited Fifa World Cup, excitement around the soccer spectacle has reached fever pitch.

Patriotism is the buzzword and being proudly South African has become cool again.

The display of flags - whether South African or foreign - has added a splash of colour to our cities and homes.

Cash cow

Everyone wants a slice of the World Cup pie, which will bring thousands of tourists and soccer fans from all over the world to the country.

A major retailer recently launched a series of soccer-inspired memorabilia to celebrate the soccer spectacle, which is being held in Africa for the first time.

With everyone else milking the World Cup cash cow, who can blame them?

The retailer's range of goodies is different from that offered by other retailers because it is not limited to soccer-themed items of clothing.

Ingenuity

The range includes edible products such as chocolates packaged in striking and colourful wrappers, sweets in collectible tins that can double as money boxes and other items for the home such as seat cushions, towels, bowls and mugs.

The proceeds from the sale of some of the goods will be donated to charity organisations.

The retailer has shown ingenuity in creating practical memorabilia that can be used in the home, items that will not only strike a chord with soccer fans but the novelty of which will outlast the quadrennial spectacle.
