Thank you South Africa

BAFANA Bafana have thanked South Africans for rallying behind the team in the build-up to the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals.

BAFANA Bafana have thanked South Africans for rallying behind the team in the build-up to the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals.

Speaking after their 1-1 draw against Bulgaria at Orlando Stadium on Monday night, captain Aaron Mokoena said: 'The crowd was fantastic and the atmosphere was electrifying.

"We could not afford to disappoint all the people who came to watch us, everybody was singing, ululating and others blowing the vuvuzelas.

"It was a tough game. Bulgaria may not have qualified for the 2010 Fifa World Cup but they are one of the top teams in football.

"On behalf of the players, I want to say thank you to all the people who came to support us and we still urge the entire nation to support us.

"It is important for all South Africans to support us. In 1995 the whole country was behind the Springboks and they went all the way to win the tournament.

"The following year, Bafana Bafana hosted the Africa Cup of Nations and did well by not only reaching the final but beating Tunisia to win gold."

Teko Modise, stand-in captain for the day, was also full of praises for the locals who came out in their numbers. He appealed to South Africans to keep on supporting the team.

"We appreciate all the support we have been getting from the fans. It helps us a great deal as it serves as a motivation for us every time we go out and play. Hopefully, the support will increase in the coming weeks leading to the World Cup," Modise said.

With the kick-off just 15 days away, people have also been encouraged to wear Bafana Bafana regalia to show their support. The players are well aware of all this and have pledged to work hard not to disappoint more than 40million South Africans who'll be cheering them on.
