THE ANC in Gauteng has pledged to review the performance of Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and her officials.
This is the first time that the ANC has publicly acknowledged that it is accountable to the people for its choice of leaders.
The present electoral system leaves the voters at the mercy of horse trading within the party for the top jobs. Very often there is little that voters, save for delivery protests, can do about it.
The performance review will hopefully keep leaders and officials on their toes and remind them that they are answerable for their actions.
There have been many instances where malfeasance, mismanagement and outright corruption was left unchecked because the party swept it under the carpet.
This act will restore the public's faith in the political process and ensure that a fairly honest government is in power.
