THE situation at the Thulamela Soccer Association took an interesting turn when chairperson Joe Vukeya was voted out of office on Sunday amid allegations of factions in the troubled association.

Vukeya lost out to his former secretary, Aifheli Tshisikule, who was the competitions manager under the former chairperson, in elections held at Thohoyandou indoor sports centre.

Speaking to Sowetan after new office bearers were elected, Vukeya said there was no way he was going to win.

"Teams were given a list of people to vote for and there was a lot of back-stabbing, with some people being accused of not wanting Safa president Kirsten Nematandani," Vukeya said.

He said he was once accused of holding secret meetings with the chairperson of the Makhado Football Association, George Khubayi, who has allegedly backed Irvin Khoza.

Baloyi said a group of back-stabbers working in the association claimed to represent the Football Transformation Forum and accused others of working against the FTF. Vukeya said the group was making Safa Vhembe president Chief Khorombi Nemavhola's reign difficult.

"After getting rid of me they are now gunning to remove Nemavhola and replace him with Hulisani Mabasa," Vukeya said.

He said he had no hard feelings after losing the elections "because I have other things to do in life".

Vukeya recently nullified the nominations, claiming they were flawed.

Tshisikule did not answer when Sowetan phoned him several times yesterday.
