Stars make sizeable offer for Mandaza

PLATINUM Stars are digging deep into their pockets to acquire the services of highly rated Zimbabwean striker Terence Mandaza.

PLATINUM Stars are digging deep into their pockets to acquire the services of highly rated Zimbabwean striker Terence Mandaza.

Sowetan has reliably learnt that Dinaledi have offered Botswana giants Township Rollers more than R1million for the services of the deadly forward.

Mandaza, who scored 42 goals for Rollers in the recently completed season, featured for Orlando Pirates in the 2010 Mpumalanga Premier's Cup on Saturday, which was won by Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The player who is also known as "The Terrorist" scored a goal when Pirates beat Mozambique's Ferroviaro De Maputo in the first semifinal at Thulamahashe Stadium. The other goal came from Joseph Makhanya. Township Rollers central defender Itayi Gwandu also featured for Pirates.

Rollers manager Somerset Goiawang was at the stadium.

"Our season is over and our players are now on holiday," said Goiawang when asked about the latest developments regarding Mandaza and Gwandu.

The other clubs that are known to be interested in Mandaza include Bloemfontein Celtic, AmaZulu and Maritzburg United.

Aces won the Premier's Cup after pipping Pirates 1-0 in the final. Despite a last-minute call-up and the hassle of bringing players back from leave, AmaZayoni did the province proud by winning the trophy and R120000 winners' cheque. Aces reached the final after a 4-2 win over Swaziland's Mbabane Swallows on penalties.
