Jali will live on

A NOTE to national team coach Carlos Alberto Parreira and fellow alarmists: Andile Jali is not dying; he only has a "mild" cardiovascular condition.

At just 20, the only thing of note the Orlando Pirates midfielder has lost is a place in the Bafana Bafana provisional World Cup squad, not his life.

Before Jali, there was Nwankwo Kanu, who an Inter Milan medical revealed, had a serious heart defect and had to undergo surgery in 1996.

Today, many yonks later, a fit-as-fiddle Kanu comes to South Africa as captain of his national team, the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Before the two, France's most capped player, Lilian Thuram, missed the chance to sign for Paris Saint-Germain after having a heart condition diagnosed.

So, if it's not a heart attack, senõr Parreira, Jali will live to see - and play, in many more World Cup tournaments.

Get well soon, Andile.
