SABC new tune over news chief

JUST before 4pm yesterday, SABC spin doctor Kaizer Kganyago announced the appointment of Phil Molefe as its head of news and current affairs.

JUST before 4pm yesterday, SABC spin doctor Kaizer Kganyago announced the appointment of Phil Molefe as its head of news and current affairs.

But within half an hour, Fellang Sekha, the deputy SABC board chairperson, said that no appointment had been made because the board was still going through the shortlist of candidates.

Sekha told Sowetan last night: "We don't know anything about the appointment."

Sekha's comments flew in the face of chief executive Solly Mokoetle who had earlier congratulated Molefe, currently the general manager of international affairs.

Molefe has been acting group editor of news and current affairs.
