YOUNG Katlehong resident Ayanda Mabuza will enter the history books during the 2010 Fifa World Cup as the youngest volunteer at the event.
Mabuza, who turned 18 on March 3, is one of the more than 15000 volunteers who were recruited by the Local Organising Committee across the globe.
The Sowetan crew visited Mabuza at her parents' home in Tshabalala Section where she has become an overnight celebrity.
"I still can't believe that I will be part of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, the first-ever tournament to take place on African soil," said an ecstatic Mabuza.
"One day I was reading a newspaper when I saw an advert saying that the LOC was looking for volunteers for the World Cup.
"Without any waste of time, I decided to apply and a few months later, I received a text message from the LOC informing me that my application was successful.
"The World Cup is finally here and I'm feeling it. When we were awarded the bid on May 15 2004, I told myself I want to be part of this history."
