FANS attending World Cup matches in Johannesburg should buy park-and-ride and park-and-walk tickets in advance because there will be none at the stadiums.

The City of Johannesburg urged fans to buy tickets, which went on sale yesterday, at least a day before the match.

Johannesburg mayoral committee on transport member Rehana Moosajee said yesterday: "There will be road closures around the stadiums and no parking will be allowed in the stadium environs. We are encouraging ticket holders to use public transport such as Rea Vaya, Metrorail, park-and-walks and park-and-rides."

Gauteng department of transport World Cup coordinator Sipho Mbele said Metrorail would have 10 trains dedicated to service soccer fans in Johannesburg and eight in Pretoria.

"There will be 200 minibus taxis operating from OR Tambo International Airport, Westgate and Pretoria stations. The taxis will also take people to and from the park-and-ride facilities," Mbele said.

Park-and-rides cost R50 for a private car, R100 for a minibus taxi, R500 for a 35- to 40-seater bus and R700 for a 64-seater bus.
