This week the court ordered Fassie's ex-manager, Chicco Twala, to pay R3 million into her estate. At the same time Fassie's son, Bongani, was asking another court to remove David Feldman as executor of her mother's estate.

MaBrrr should have raked in more money than any local musician. She outsold and outperformed them all for more than a decade - but died a pauper.

Her royalties have been swallowed up despite a growing number of promoters, musicians' rights groups and individuals asking for the protection of a rtists.

Musicians have been crying for far too long. That the likes of Mzwakhe Mbuli have not yet got around to ensuring that they get every penny they deserve is a crying shame.
