Benni boep at it again

OUT of patriotism we tone down our view so it doesn't sound as biting as a "we told you so" rightly should.

OUT of patriotism we tone down our view so it doesn't sound as biting as a "we told you so" rightly should.

But the petulant Benni McCarthy, a monster of Safa's own creation, has come back to haunt the suits in charge of our football.

After rewarding his portliness with a call-up, the peevish one has gone ahead and kicked Safa in the teeth.

It is the national team's custom after each training session to select a handful of players to field questions from the media about our readiness for the World Cup starting in 22 days' time. Yesterday was Benni's turn and there are no prizes for guessing why a late replacement in Kagisho Dikgacoi was sought.

His litany of woes - condoned by the selfsame Safa - is enough to fill a tome.

Before his rotund form took shape he'd feign injury when he had to do national duty and in the same period of his alleged incapacitation turn out for his club side.

He told everyone within range of his Cape Flats voice what an irresponsible father he'd have been had he chosen to report for duty first instead of seeing to the welfare of his sick child.

He held a gun to the collective head of the nation when he refused to play unless Mohamed Mubarak personally apologised to him for blaming Benni for a players' revolt - one of too many.

Once he withdrew from the team via SMS.

And to crown it all boepens once hollered he was better than other selected players.

We forgive you, Benni. The fault lies not with you but with those who made you.
