Sinyabi gets out of tight spo t

WHEN in trouble, the good fighters find ways to survive - either by a well-timed clinch, removing the mouthpiece or a wrestling take-down.

Macbute "Macman" Sinyabi used the take-down against Themba Lesiba at Nasrec Arena on Friday night after Lesiba had hurt him with an overarm right to the jaw midway through the second round.

Sinyabi appeared to be in danger. He lunged forward and tackled Lesiba but eventually went down on one knee.

Sinyabi got up and regained his senses after the count of eight.

From round three Sinyabi fought back like a man possessed, but Lesiba showed great determination and a granite jaw as he took a severe pounding.

But he suddenly turned his back, a clear sign that he had enough, and referee Wally Snowball looked bemused when he should have stopped the fight.

Sinyabi moved in and unleashed more punches. This time Lesiba went down. He got up, just to become a punching bag until he was saved by the bell.

Sinyabi, whose physique is reminiscent of a young, lean Thomas "Hitman" Hearns, knocked Lesiba's head back with stiff jabs in the fourth round. Lesiba was already a beaten man going into the fifth round but he soldiered on until the end of the round. A vicious right dropped him early in the sixth round and he got up.

Snowball allowed him to continue when the youngster from Orange Farm needed his protection. The fighter's trainer and father, Leonard Lesiba, threw in the towel.

The win was Sinyabi's 14th stoppage win, against one loss, while it was Lesiba's first defeat against nine wins and a draw.

"No excuses. We were ready. Macbute can punch," acknowledged Leonard. "He has got all my blessings."

Nick Durandt said: "For Sinyabi to go down, get up and do what did goes to show how much he puts up in the gym."
