FORMER Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows midfielder Humphrey Mlwane has made a dramatic comeback to big-time soccer, this time as a national coach.

FORMER Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows midfielder Humphrey Mlwane has made a dramatic comeback to big-time soccer, this time as a national coach.

Safa named him as assistant coach of the South African development team.

Mlwane will assist former Safa director of coaching Simon "Malome" Ngomane, when Amabinneplaas take on Zambia on Sunday.

This will be the first-leg match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Katlehong Stadium. Kickoff is at 3pm. Sowetan was unable to get full details regarding the appointments of Ngomane and Mlwane as Safa chief executive Leslie Sedibe could not be reached for comment.

Apparently Safa staff signed letters to the effect that they would not speak to the media on any matter.

Sedibe and president Kirsten Nematandani are said to be the only two administrators authorised by the new Safa leadership to talk to the media. Nematandani was also not available for comment yesterday.

Amabinneplaas qualified for the second round of CHAN when they defeated Botswana while Zambia got a bye after reaching the inaugural finals in 2009.

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Zambia has put coach George Lwandamina at the helm of Chipolopolo for the game against South Africa.

This follows the departure of Herve Renard, who joined Angola. He guided Zambia to a third-place finish at the inaugural CHAN tournament held in Ivory Coast last year.
