Diski dance fever has not only hit South Africa. The storm is spreading across the world.

Diski dance choreographer Wendy Ramokgadi has just returned from a two-week tour of Hong Kong, China, to promote the dance craze that is set to mesmerise both local and international soccer fans during the World Cup.

"There was a South Africa Festival to promote the World Cup. It was the third invitation we received from Hong Kong," Ramokgadi said yesterday.

"The reception from the people of Hong Kong was amazing. We toured and taught people the dance. We had a great time at the Olympian City mall. The great thing with the mall was that when we performed, they broadcast live feeds to other malls.

"We even had a shot at the Guinness Book of Records, with more than 1000 people doing the dance."

Ramokgadi said the Chinese were excited about coming to South Africa for the month-long tournament that kicks off in 27 days' time.

"I told them they should come to the country early. They should experience the spirit of ubuntu, feel the rhythm of Africa and the spirit of togetherness."

Ramokgadi said his company, Kasi Entertainment, had thousands of dancers around the country teaching people how to do the diski dance.

"The dance is our signature dance as South Africans. This is a sport dance. We are painting the country diski. We want to ensure that everyone gets to see it. During the World Cup, we will ensure that there are diski dancers at all fan parks."
