IN A bid to play a different tune for listeners Ligwalagwala FM is gearing for the Fifa World Cup by making up substantial changes on the air.
This follows a request by listeners who want to have "a real feeling of the games".
The station will bring in favourite and familiar sports commentators from the 80s to do commentary during the World Cup.
Sibusiso Derrick Mashabane, Newyear Ntuli, Simon "Phiri" Ngomane and "Super Boss himself" Rio Mabunda will hit the airwaves taking listeners down memory lane.
Ligwalagwala FM promotions and publicity officer Christinah Mazibuko said: "These will be the stations' voices during the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
"The listeners will now be able to watch their television screens and listen to Swati commentary at the same time."
Mashabane, who at present runs his own business, will host the sports commentary especially for the World Cup.
"I feel humbled that I have been considered to assist the station on this historic occasion. It will remind me of my days with the station during the 80s," Mashabane said.
Ntuli, a legend of the airwaves, was once a sport presenter on Ligwalagwala FM and also a continuity presenter from 1988 to 1994.
At present he works as a general manager of information technology at the South African Post Office head office.
"I am looking forward to be part of the once-in-a-lifetime 2010 Fifa World Cup in Africa and I will make my humble contribution to the betterment of the sport," Ntuli said.
Ngomane is a member of the Safa national technical committee and an assigned coach for the national development team, the reserve side of Bafana Bafana.
He is not a first timer on the airwaves. He once assisted as a sports analyst during previous world cups and the Africa Cup of Nations.
He said he had had a wonderful stint with the Ligwalagwala FM listeners.
"The positive feedback I got from listeners was pleasing and I'm happy to be backon the airwaves."
Mabunda was recently reappointed Ligwalagwala FM station manager after having resigned a few months ago.
"The station has assembled a formidable line-up for the World Cup. They represent the best football brains in the province," Mabunda said.
"We are going to mesmerise our listeners and cement our position as leading radio station in the province."
