TOP TEAMS TARGET AKA

NEDBANK Cup semifinalists AmaZulu and Free State Stars have shown keen interest in snatching up Maritzburg United striker Brice Aka. Santos are also hunting Aka.

The Ivorian international is one of four Team of Choice players who have been placed on the transfer list.

The other three are Zambian midfielder Noah Chivuta, Senegalese linkman Vito Badiane and right-back and former national Under-23 team captain James Madidilane.

United CEO Afzal Khan confirmed yesterday that neighbours AmaZulu, Stars and Santos were interested in Aka.

"We are waiting for them to come back to us next week. But things are promising," Khan said.

"We are still to hear from other teams about the services of Noah, Vito and James.

"Placing these players on the transfer list is part of our restructuring of the team for the new season.

"We will go into the market to get new players. Our aim is not to fight against relegation but for silverware next season.

"I'm not saying those who are leaving did not live up to expectations, but we thought we have to make some restructuring in the team."

Khan also confirmed that Santos had shown interest in Madidilane.

Premiership survivors Mpumalanga Black Aces are also interested in the former Bloemfontein Celtic and Thanda Royal Zulu defender.

United are working to build a solid team for next season and for them to release the quartet, all of whom performed well when given the chance, is an indication that the Pietermaritzburg club means business.

Others players who have already been released by the club are midfielders Lynch Pule, Bheka Phakathi and Diego Brown, along with forward Collen Zimba.
