THE road to recovery for Bafana Bafana is a long one but it will start with the national team having its own base, Safa vice-president Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko said yesterday.

Its importance was underlined on a recent trip to Ivory Coast for the Fifa Goal Project. The project is aimed at reviving the country's youth development.

Mazibuko said: "It was a worthwhile trip and something we would also like to do here at home.

"They have built a centre where all their national teams will be based and we would also like to do that.

"We can't keep on relying on sponsors and sleeping at hotels. We need to build a similar centre for Bafana Bafana and all the other national teams," Mazibuko said.

He also said government involvement would help them achieve their goal.

He reiterated Safa's mission to appoint a local coach to take over the reins from Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira.

"There must be transition and a coach will be named soon. I don't know why people are not happy about this. It will be the first time a coach does not leave the association unceremoniously."
