DISABLED people in the Vhembe district of Limpopo say Public Service and Administration Minister Richard Baloyi's visit augurs well for their future.

Baloyi said the government's entire departments were required to comply with the Employment Equity Act by employing two percent of people with disabilities.

He said this after he met disabled people during a Public Participation Programme at the Thulamela municipality's chamber in Thohoyandou.

He called on forums representing people with disabilities to work hand in hand with government departments to help them equip people with the necessary skills.

He also assured them that this year all the departments would be able to reach the targets to fast-track the implementation of the Employment Equity Act in favour of people with disabilities.

"There is a dire need for government departments to speed up the process of meeting the requirements in terms of employing people with disabilities," Baloyi said.

"South Africa belongs to all people who live in it and therefore the government has come out with policies which would make opportunities open to all the people, including the disabled."

Chairperson of the Vhembe Disabled People Forum Rapson Rambuwani said: "There were many unemployed disabled people in Vhembe and some with papers(qualifications)."

He said they had compiled a memorandum of their complaints and were happy that the minister said he was studying it.

After the meeting, Baloyi visited government services points in the area to interact with public servants, before going to attend an imbizo at the Phiphidi sports ground near Sibasa.
