BULLET takes aim in doha

AFTER a successful South African track season, Mbulaeni "Bullet" Mulaudzi has been invited to compete in the Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar, on Friday.

AFTER a successful South African track season, Mbulaeni "Bullet" Mulaudzi has been invited to compete in the Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar, on Friday.

The 800m world champion will be joined by two other top South African athletes - 400m specialist Louis van Zyl and triple jumper Tumelo Thagane.

"I won the same event in Doha in 2001 but will have to work hard to come back with the title. The plan is to do sub-1:44 (1min:44sec)," Mulaudzi said.

"The event in Doha forms part of my preparations for the African Senior Track and Field Championships. So far, so good."

Athletics South Africa said yesterday that they were assisting all their athletes in their preparations for the Commonwealth Games in India in October.

The athletes include Windy Jonas, Mapaseka Makhanya, Jan Masanamela, Samuel Sepeng, Samson Ngoepe and Tebogo Masehla.

The six athletes will be off to Belgium for a track and field meeting on May 24.

Edwin Molepo (3000m steeplechase), Mthobisi Baloyi (1500m), Sibusiso Sishi (400m), Gladwin Mzazi (10000m), Juan van Deventer (1500m), Wouter le Roux (400m hurdles), Elroy Galant (5000m), Tshamano Setone (5000m), Estie Wittstock (400m) and Elizna Naude (discus) will also benefit from ASA's help.

l Stellenbosch will host track and field meetings on June 5 and 18.
