Referral hospital is complete

THE construction of Moses Kotane Hospital in North West is complete.

THE construction of Moses Kotane Hospital in North West is complete.

The facility is one of 18 hospitals across the country that will be used during the World Cup.

In February, the late deputy health minister Molefi Sefularo expressed concern about the delay in the hospital's completion. At that time the 200-bed facility was 90percent complete.

Sefularo was concerned by procurement and installation of necessary medical equipment because the hospital should be ready for operation by end of April.

Moses Kotane has a fully fledged casualty and emergency unit, high-care centre (adult and neonatal). It has a clinical workshop, psychiatric unit, six operating theatres and private wards.

"The hospital boasts a helipad that will make it easier for casualties to be airlifted to other health institutions," Sefularo said.

The hospital is equipped with 39 residential units for employees.

The facility, together with Job Shimankane Tabane Hospital in Rustenburg, will be dedicated to the event.

"Moses Kotane will serve as a referral centre for 45 clinics and four health centers in the sub-district. Services which were rendered at George Stegmann Hospital will now relocate to the newly built hospital," department spokesperson Tebogo Lekgethwane said.

"Stegmann will be refurbished to be a community health centre and a nursing training centre replacing the Mmabatho College of Nursing," he said.
