Farmers live in fear of death

FARMERS in Mpumalanga are living in fear of being killed after a letter with death threats was allegedly picked up on a farm in Brondal near Nelspruit.

The letter, written in an African language and poor English, warns farmers to "stop employing Mozambicans at the expense of South Africans".

The letter was allegedly picked up by a farmworker on Wednesday. He then handed it over to his employer, who passed it on to Nelspruit police. It was allegedly found at a farm where a house was burned to the ground on Monday.

Farmer Dave Mortlock yesterday confirmed that his house was burned down, but decided against commenting further.

He said no one was injured in the incident. - Riot Hlatshwayo
